So, you finally have that swimming pool in your backyard that you have always dreamed of, a brilliant blue body of water sparkling in the sun just waiting for you to dive in on a hot day! Having your own swimming pool is wonderful fun, and healthy as well, swimming being the greatest of all exercises and the most pleasant! Now that the pool is done, why stop there? It’s time to put in the pool house of your dreams to go with it!
A pool house is a grand tradition, all the best swimming pools have them! Start with a simple rectangular outbuilding and install glass stacking sliding doors all along the side facing the pool so it feels like there is hardly a wall there at all! These glass doors stack so you can open and close them in a wide variety of configurations, letting plenty of air flow through, or keeping the breeze out on a chilly evening. Now let’s get this place properly appointed!
First off, the necessities. One end of the building that is within easy reach of the pool’s shallow end is going to be devoted to the showers. Put in a row of shower heads on the outer wall so bathers can shower off quickly and easily before they enter the pool and after they get out. There should be a gentlemen’s and ladies’ room, each with a changing area that has a bench and some lockers, another shower, and toilet facilities. A ceiling-to-floor mirror in each is also great for admiring your beautiful bathing suit bod!
Now on to the recreation section. We recommend no slip tile for the flooring that doesn’t mind some dripping wet feet on it once in a while, although you will have a drying mat out front to lessen the mess. Inside is where the fun happens! Put in a foosball table to keep the kids happy when the rain comes and they are ordered out of the pool! A ping pong table would also be a great addition! Have some comfy deck chairs for lounging about on, and put up a big screen wall TV so everybody can watch the big game if they feel like it, or just play some music- you can add outdoor speakers if you want the sound to be heard out on the pool deck!
Swimming makes everybody hungry, so the next stop is the kitchenette! Put in a large fridge that you can fill with soft drinks for the kids and some nice beers and wine coolers for the grown-ups. It’s good to have some snacks available, go with easy-to-eat processed meat and cheese snacks and bread for sandwich making. There should be a sink, and a microwave oven to heat up pizza snacks and other frozen treats! To be clear, this is not a nutrition centre, it’s a fun place to eat and drink fun things when you take a break from all that healthy swimming! Don’t forget the coffee pot! No glass or porcelain tableware, only plastic by the pool!
You will have so much fun in your pool house, you may forget to go swimming!
